Multiple myeloma and related malignancies

Il mieloma multiplo è un tumore del sangue che ha origine nel midollo osseo. Circa il 25% delle diagnosi avviene “per caso”, in seguito ad indagini cliniche di laboratorio effettuate per altri motivi.
Fino ai due terzi dei malati presenta dolore osseo, in particolare alla schiena, al momento della diagnosi e circa il 75% mostra fratture ai raggi. Sono sintomi debilitanti con un impatto significativo sulla qualità di vita. Accade che queste persone possano avere difficoltà a camminare, fare le scale e talvolta non possono più guidare l’automobile. La diagnosi precoce è difficile, perché molti pazienti non presentano sintomi fino allo stadio avanzato della malattia.
Per fortuna negli ultimi 10 anni significativi progressi nella comprensione della fisiopatologia del mieloma multiplo e delle relative malignità hanno portato all'adozione di nuove terapie efficaci e sicure che hanno apportato importanti novità in campo biologico e clinico e questo ha consentito che la sopravvivenza nel mieloma multiplo si sia quintuplicata, passando da 2 a 10 anni.
L’incontro internazionale, organizzato da i Proff. Angelo Vacca, Pellegrino Musto e Roberto Ria, con il patrocinio dell’Università degli studi di Bari “A. Moro”, la Società Italiana di Ematologia (SIE), la Società Italiana di Ematologia Sperimentale (SIES) e la Società Italiana di Medicina Interna (SIMI), è stato progettato proprio allo scopo di fornire, a tutti gli esperti o studiosi del settore (specialisti in ematologia, oncologia, immunologia, medicina interna, malattie infettive, ortopedia, radiologia e radioterapia, biologi, biotecnologi, giovani ricercatori, dottorandi e studenti universitari), una grande opportunità di approfondire e aggiornare le loro conoscenze sui risultati dei nuovi studi e sulle innovazioni in campo biologico nella gestione del mieloma multiplo e delle malignità ad esso correlate.
Il congresso internazionale, completamente in lingua inglese, si svolgerà, dal 5 al 7 novembre, in modalità online (webinar) e consentirà la partecipazione di numerosi esperti di fama internazionale che si soffermeranno sulle caratteristiche genetiche ed epigenetiche della biologia del mieloma, sui meccanismi molecolari e biologici della progressione della malattia, arrivando finanche ad analizzare nuovi fattori prognostici e nuovi approcci per valutare la risposta alla terapia, nonché nuove molecole terapeutiche, e loro combinazioni , specificamente mirate alle cellule tumorali e/o al loro microambiente.
Importante tema del congresso internazionale, oggetto di un esame intensivo, sarà anche il trapianto di cellule staminali autologhe e allogeniche.
L’incontro, oltre ad essere un momento di un aggiornamento biologico e clinico completo, rappresenterà l’occasione di arricchimento professionale, che darà il via a nuove sfide, contro il mieloma multiplo e i tumori ad esso affini, che saranno affrontate con risultati più razionali e più efficaci.
